Azerbaijani citizens have been detained in Georgia

As a result of a complex operation conducted by the Migration Department and Border Police officers of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), 14 foreigners who are citizens of Bangladesh, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Morocco were detained.

Oxu.Az reports, citing Interpressnews.ge, that the Georgian MIA released a statement.

It was stated that the detained individuals were found to be staying in the country without legal grounds. It was revealed that they violated the conditions envisaged by the asylum procedure and had been living illegally in the country for several years.

"The detained individuals did not benefit from the period specified by the decision that envisaged voluntary departure from the country. As a result, the MIA’s Migration Department decided to detain these individuals. To ensure the enforcement of this decision, the detainees are currently held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation center, and their deportation to their countries of origin is planned," the statement emphasized.
