From October 2024 to September 2025, the air temperature in the Arctic reached the highest level since 1900.
AZERTAC reports that this was stated in a report published by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
According to scientists, the increase in air and ocean water temperatures causes glaciers to melt rapidly, which creates significant changes in the Arctic landscape. The melting of glaciers leads to a rise in sea levels and consequently increases the risks of landslides and tsunamis.
In addition, iron and other chemical elements released from the glaciers enter the Arctic waters and cause environmental pollution. This process may pose a threat to some fauna species living in the Chukchi and Bering Seas.
The report notes that the last decade has been the warmest period observed in the Arctic region.
It is worth noting that on June 19, information was circulated that scientists were concerned about an unusual greening process in the Arctic. Earlier, it was reported that the eternal glaciers in the Alps were also under serious threat.
