The desire to drink alcohol alone without any reason is one of the warning signs of alcoholism.
Demokrat.az reports that psychiatrist-addictologist Yuliya Perminova stated this in an interview with "RIA Novosti".
According to her, some symptoms of alcohol dependence can only be identified by a specialist, but some can also be detected through self-observation (self-analysis).
"If you have started drinking more frequently, for example, once a week instead of once a month, if you find new excuses that you did not use before, if thinking about alcohol improves your mood and you have the desire to 'continue drinking' - this is already an alarming signal," the specialist said.
She added that other symptoms include changes in emotional reactions, an increase in minor injuries while intoxicated, loss of documents and belongings, as well as disturbances in time and space orientation.
The specialist noted that if three or more of these symptoms are observed, it is recommended to consult a doctor.
On May 15, another specialist also stated that household-level alcohol dependence can develop within a year even with the regular use of small amounts of alcoholic beverages.
According to him, at this stage, although strong psychological and physical dependence might not yet have formed, damage to the body has already begun.
