It has been confirmed that 11 workers died as a result of the explosion of a chemical-filled tank at the "Nippon Dynawave Packaging" cellulose-paper facility located in Longview, Washington state, USA.
Medianews.az reports, citing oxu.az, that this information was released by the "NBC News" television channel citing local authorities.
It was noted that initially the bodies of two workers were found. Subsequently, the search for nine missing employees was halted, and they were officially declared deceased. As for the number of injured, a total of 10 people suffered various degrees of bodily harm as a result of the incident, including one firefighter.
It was noted that the tank contained approximately 900,000 gallons (about 3.4 million liters) of a white alkaline chemical solution. This substance is used in the cooking process in cellulose production. Experts estimate that more than 340,000 liters of the chemical remain in the tank. The area continues to present an unstable and health-threatening environment.
