The winner of the main race at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix has been determined.
AZERTAC reports that in the race, 10 teams, each consisting of two drivers, competed.
The best result was achieved by Max Verstappen, a member of the "Red Bull" team. The driver who crossed the finish line first became the winner of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. George Russell ("Mercedes") came second, and Carlos Sainz ("Williams") came third.
In the first free practice session held on September 19, British driver Lando Norris of "McLaren" finished fastest, and in the second free practice session, Lewis Hamilton competing for "Ferrari" took the lead. In the third free practice held the day before yesterday, Lando Norris achieved the best result, and in the qualifying session, Max Verstappen set the best time.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan has been hosting one of the most prestigious motorsport races in the world since 2016. The first Formula 1 race held in our country was named the European Grand Prix. In that race, German Nico Rosberg finished first. In subsequent years, respectively, Daniel Ricciardo (Australia), Lewis Hamilton (Great Britain), Valtteri Bottas (Finland), Sergio Pérez (Mexico), Max Verstappen (Netherlands), and Oscar Piastri (Australia) outperformed all their rivals and stood on the top step of the podium. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix was not held only in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
