US President Donald Trump has announced that he has called a high-level meeting at the White House to discuss the situation in Iran.
According to Medianews.az, Trump said to journalists while returning to Washington from the state of Michigan: "I am returning to the White House. We will look at the full picture of what is happening in Iran. Very serious events are taking place there."
According to Trump, the White House will soon obtain precise information about the number of deaths during the suppression of protests in Iran: "We will learn the real situation regarding the killings."
Trump emphasized that the US will respond appropriately based on this information. However, he did not disclose what possible steps might be: "I cannot explain that. But I know exactly what I will do."
According to information, officials responsible for foreign policy and defense (Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegset, Central Intelligence Agency Director John Ratcliffe, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Cain, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard) will participate in the National Security Council meeting to be held at the White House.
It is also reported that Vice President Jay Di Vinci will attend the meeting.
This meeting is assessed as a discussion of possible political and diplomatic options regarding Washington's response to the continuing protests and government crackdown in Iran. The US administration has not yet announced which decisions will be made.
