"The analysis of accidents recorded within the coverage area of surveillance cameras shows that the number of traffic accidents caused by driver inattentiveness in Baku is not small."
Oxu.Az reports that this was stated in the appeal to drivers by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) Intelligent Transport Management Center (ITMC).
"Drivers should be aware that any vehicle can experience a technical malfunction during movement, which may force the vehicle to stop on the roadway. In such cases, the lack of attention of other drivers on the road, the use of mobile phones or other distracting devices while behind the wheel, leads to the failure to reduce speed in time and consequently causes an accident. Especially on streets and avenues with heavy traffic, such incidents result in fatalities and injuries, serious damage to vehicles, and artificial traffic congestion.
Due to this accident on Airport Highway, the traffic congestion towards the center near the ‘Koroglu’ metro station was cleared after the prompt intervention of traffic police officers.
Taking the above into consideration, the ITMC calls on drivers to be more attentive on the roads, maintain proper distance between vehicles, avoid using distracting devices while driving, and behave responsibly," the appeal states.
