The next round of US-Ukraine talks is taking place in Germany. Ukraine is represented by President Volodymyr Zelenski, and the US by President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner.

Political commentator Mohammad Asadullazade told Medianews.az that Witkoff's plan includes a proposal to achieve peace in exchange for giving Donbas to Russia and Ukraine's renunciation of NATO: "Ukraine can renounce NATO. But Zelenski wants security guarantees for Ukraine in return, and for a law on this to be passed in the US Congress. The US, however, does not accept such a proposal."
According to M. Asadullazade, Zelenski will not make territorial concessions: "Holding the talks in Europe strengthens Ukraine's position and it is not excluded that the discussions in Germany will end without results. Although Russia demands the transfer of Donbas, currently Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, can maintain its position against Russia and the US.
It can be said that there is a political confrontation between the US-Russia tandem and the European Union-Ukraine tandem. There remain fundamental disagreements between the parties in this political confrontation. The US administration's reaching an agreement with Russia instead of the European Union has created a deep rift in the US-Europe alliance that has been formed over many years in the West. This leads to the degradation of the international political order.”
