The rules of football were changed in Japan - 1 POINT for the loser...

The practice of matches in the Japan Football League ending in a draw has been abolished.

Medianews.az, citing Milli.Az, reports that the new experimental rule will come into effect starting from the 2026 season.

It is reported that the current season, which has just started, is organized in a shortened format and will continue until May. From the next season, the Japan Football Federation plans to switch to the widely used "autumn-spring" system in Europe.

According to the new decision, in matches that end in a draw in regular time, the teams will immediately proceed to a penalty shootout.

According to the regulations, the side winning in 90 minutes will earn 3 points as before. The team winning on penalties will receive 2 points, while the losing side will be awarded 1 point.

The first round of the championship has already passed, and in four matches held in that round, the winners were determined by penalty shootouts.
