As a result of a joint operation by Ukrainian intelligence agencies, a submarine belonging to the Russian Navy was blown up at the Novorossiysk port.
The diesel-electric submarine of the "636.3 Varshavyanka" project was hit by the "Sub Sea Baby" underwater drone.
Political analyst Shahin Jafarli said in a statement to Medianews.az that this is the first such incident in history: "This project was started during the Soviet period, in the 1970s, and was mainly intended for Warsaw Pact countries, hence the name "Varshavyanka." These types of submarines, with a width of 10 meters and a length of 74 meters, can operate autonomously at depths up to 300 meters for 45 days. Inside, there are 4 launchers for 'Kalibr' cruise missiles. In addition, the submarine is armed with torpedoes and mines.
The Ukrainian army has previously destroyed another "Varshavyanka" type submarine. In August 2024, the ship named "Rostov-on-Don," which was docked for repairs in Sevastopol Bay, was sunk by missile strikes.”
