Iran's famous singer and actress Googoosh spoke at a rally held by Iranian immigrants in Los Angeles, USA.
Medianews.az reports that the 75-year-old artist supported the protests ongoing in Iran for two weeks. She also called on Iranians to unite under the leadership of Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of the overthrown Shah.
In her speech, Googoosh also called on U.S. President Donald Trump to come to help “destroy Iran’s ruthless regime.”
It should be recalled that the Pahlavi dynasty ruled Iran from 1925 to 1979. Reza Pahlavi is the eldest son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the second and last Shah of Iran.
Reza was born on October 31, 1960, in Tehran. He was considered a prince from 1967. In 1978, he left Iran to undergo military training in the U.S. Air Force. A few months later, in 1979, as a result of the Islamic Revolution, the monarchy was overthrown and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi fled the country with the rest of his family. Since then, Reza Pahlavi has been living in the U.S. with his family. He is currently settled in Los Angeles. He received higher education in political science at the University of South Carolina.
The Islamic Republic of Iran was established in 1979 during the wave of the revolution. The supreme leader, who holds the head of state powers, is elected by the Assembly of Experts. Since June 3, 1989, this post has been held by Ali Khamenei, born in 1939. The function of head of government is carried out by the president of Iran, who is elected by general vote for a term of four years. Since July 28, 2024, the president is Masoud Pezeshkian, born in 1954. The 290-member national parliament (Islamic Consultative Assembly) is elected every four years by a majoritarian system (by districts). The current parliament was formed in spring 2024.
After the establishment of the Islamic Republic in Iran, Googoosh was banned from performing both as a singer and as an actress.
Having emigrated in 2000, Googoosh has been living in the U.S. since then.
