A river full of pure gold was found: People are flocking to this area

The Asturias region in northern Spain has come back into the spotlight in recent years with an unusual discovery. The Nalvegas stream has natural deposits of gold. This feature makes the region unique both geologically and historically.

According to Milli.Az, experts believe that this precious metal in the Nalvegas stream originates from rocks formed millions of years ago in western Asturias. The rocks in the region contain a small amount of gold. Over time, erosion, rain, and natural wear cause these gold particles to break off and be carried to the stream beds.

Because gold has a high density, it sinks to the bottom of the stream and accumulates there. So, this richness in Nalvegas is not accidental; it is the result of a long-term and slow geological process.

The presence of gold in Asturias is not a modern discovery. The area was an important mining center during the Roman Empire era. Roman engineers extracted gold both from streams and mountain slopes using water channels and primitive yet effective methods. The gold flakes found in the stream today are considered the natural legacy of those ancient activities.

Currently, searching for gold in Nalvegas carries more of a cultural heritage character than an economic necessity. The "National Gold Washing Championship" held in the town keeps this tradition alive. Participants are given sand with hidden gold particles and are required to separate the gold from the sand using special containers (pan method).

Today, the Nalvegas stream is not the center of major industrial mining, but its significance far exceeds material value. For the local people, this stream is a symbol where history, nature, and identity unite. Gold is no longer a source of livelihood; it is a way to connect with the past, promote rural tourism, and pass on culture.
