The creation of pornographic deepfakes in this context was prohibited

The US Senate has approved a bill prohibiting the creation of pornographic deepfakes involving real people without their consent.

BAKU.WS reports that the document grants victims the right to seek compensation for damages and to obtain court orders to stop the distribution of such materials.

According to the bill, digital platforms are obliged to remove such deepfake materials within 48 hours after being requested. If the requirements are not met, affected individuals can file legal claims not only against the creators of the deepfakes but also to immediately stop their distribution.

The legislative initiative was prompted by the scandal surrounding Elon Musk’s chatbot named "Grok." The mentioned artificial intelligence tool was creating erotic deepfakes within the social network "X."

As a result, the service was blocked in Malaysia and Indonesia, and the platform limited its image creation and editing functions by making them paid features.

At the same time, the UK's media regulator "Ofcom" has started investigating whether the "X" platform complies with user protection requirements against unlawful artificial intelligence content following a government request.
