The Ukrainian parliament – the Verkhovna Rada decided on October 8 to extend the term of local elected bodies indefinitely.
Medianews.az reports that thus, the possible local elections scheduled for October 26 have been postponed.
No elections can be held in occupied Ukraine. The parliamentary election, which was to be held on October 29, 2023, and the presidential election, which was to be held on March 31, 2024, have also been postponed.
Russia has been waging an occupying war in Ukraine since 2014, declaring that it annexed the Crimean Peninsula that year, and the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions in 2022.
The last presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine were held in 2019. The first round of the presidential election was on March 31, and in the second round – on April 21, Vladimir Zelensky won.
The Verkhovna Rada was elected on July 21, 2019.
Local elections were held on October 25, 2020.
