One of the main candidates for this award in 2025 is the President of the USA, Donald Trump. Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize before, but he did not receive the award.
Will Donald Trump be able to receive the Nobel Prize this time?
Ilham Ismayil, a security issues expert, spoke to Medianews.az on the topic and stated that usually the Norwegian Nobel Committee screens candidates who contribute to peace on an international scale and selects the one it considers most deserving as the laureate: “Unfortunately, in the current tense times in the world, there is virtually no real person who contributes to peace on an international level. I should also add that the President of the USA is the one seeking the Nobel, not the Nobel seeking him. The worst aspect of this is that he himself is seeking it and is confident. But, to prove this claim in practice, he would need to contribute to peace at least in the Middle East and in the Russia-Ukraine war. So far, however, we do not see that the US President has achieved anything in this direction.
Therefore, considering the current situation, I do not view Donald Trump as a lucky candidate. I even think that currently Europe is also against his candidacy. If in the coming days, before October, Trump can achieve justice on the Russia-Ukraine front, undoubtedly many will support his candidacy and applaud if the award is given. However, at this moment, I do not expect this. Actually, it is not just about Trump alone. Now, in general, no global figure matching the parameters of the Nobel Peace Prize is visible.”
