Where do political coups lead a superstate? - Statement of an Azerbaijani political scientist living in America

Republican politician and conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a staunch supporter of US President Donald Trump, was assassinated. How can the motives behind this murder be explained? Could Charlie Kirk's killing lead to any changes in US domestic and foreign policy?

Medianews.az has turned to political analyst Ərəstun Oruclu, who resides in the United States, for commentary on the subject.

Ə. Oruclu stated that Charlie Kirk’s assassination is a sign of the increasing transition from words to violence in American politics: “A few months ago, two members of a local legislative body in the state of Minnesota were targeted by assassination attempts. Prior to that, at the end of last year’s election campaign, there was an attempt on Donald Trump himself. This already shows that polarization in American politics is moving not only from words but also into radical actions. One of the main culprits of this polarization is Trump. Because many of his speeches are speeches of hatred. He takes a very uncompromising stance toward the opposing side. He accuses his rivals of anything and feels no responsibility for any of his statements. This inevitably deepens polarization and division in society.”

The political analyst emphasized that Americans are among the most heavily armed peoples in the world: “According to various statistics, there are more guns than people in the US. Among a population of 340 million, naturally, there are people with very diverse psychological profiles. By different psychologies, I mean both those who are prone to anger, violence, hatred, and those who have mental health problems. Just this year alone, there have been more than 300 armed incidents in America. This statistic is increasing year by year. Under such circumstances, naturally, political activists, journalists, politicians can also be targets of assassination attempts. These are politically motivated assassinations. Therefore, they are even more dangerous.”

How will these events impact US domestic policy? Naturally, the country will become even more polarized. Democrats and Republicans will shift to rhetoric even harsher than now. The media close to Trump has already begun doing this. Trump himself targeted the leftist media again in his statement yesterday. By leftist, he means the Democrats. In such a situation, of course, tensions in US domestic policy will increase. Internal tension, in turn, will inevitably affect foreign policy. To divert attention from internal matters, more populist and therefore more wrong moves will be made in foreign policy. Trump always creates problems abroad in order to cover up problems at home.”
