Medianews.az reports that the cessation of the massacre in the Gaza region of Palestine could put an end to the controversy surrounding the "Eurovision 2026" international song contest.
On October 7, 2023, there was a military intervention from Gaza into Israeli territories, followed by a major war, with most of Gaza being completely destroyed. Some parts of the world community claim that Palestinians were subjected to genocide.
The peace agreement reached on October 13, 2025, through the mediation of the USA, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, envisages the cessation of the war in Gaza.
Medianews.az recalls that the Gaza war has also sparked debate surrounding "Eurovision 2026," which will be hosted in Vienna, the capital of Austria.
The "Eurovision" contest, held since 1956, is a project of the European Broadcasting Union, which gathers public broadcasting organizations.
The public broadcasting organizations of Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia have demanded that Israel be excluded from "Eurovision 2026." Similar positions are held in Belgium, Finland, and Iceland as well.
Armenia, Georgia, Italy, Poland, and Portugal, which are expected to participate, have not yet made any decision.
According to information as of October 14, the countries that have confirmed their participation in the contest are: Albania, Germany, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, United Kingdom, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Croatia, Sweden, Switzerland, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Montenegro, Norway, San Marino, Serbia, Ukraine, Greece.
The first semi-final of "Eurovision 2026" is scheduled for May 12, the second semi-final for May 14, and the final for May 16.
Since its inception in 1956, in the Eurovision competition, Ireland and Sweden have won 7 times, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, and the United Kingdom 5 times, Israel 4 times, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Austria, Norway, and Ukraine 3 times, Spain and Germany 2 times, Monaco, Belgium, Yugoslavia, Estonia, Latvia, Turkey, Greece, Finland, Serbia, Russia, Azerbaijan, and Portugal 1 time.
