"Another country – remote Finland – will also use Azerbaijan's transport capabilities." This was said to Medianews.az by political analyst Elkhan Shahinoglu.
He stated that during Finnish President Alexander Stubb's two-day visit to Kazakhstan, he had an extensive exchange of views with that country's leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: "Interestingly, the leaders of these two countries had met exactly one year ago in Baku. Alexander Stubb and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev came together within the framework of the COP29 climate conference held in Baku. During the meeting in Baku, Finland was named Kazakhstan's reliable partner in the Northern European region and in the European Union as a whole."
Approximately 90 percent of Finland's trade with Central Asian countries belongs to Kazakhstan. Helsinki also has another interest in deepening cooperation with Kazakhstan. Finland has two nuclear power plants that must be constantly supplied with uranium. Finland had been buying uranium from Russia in past years. However, that is no longer possible. Therefore, Helsinki has turned its attention to Kazakhstan's uranium. Thus, if Finland, alongside France, also buys uranium from Kazakhstan, it will be transported in the future via the Middle Corridor and Azerbaijan."
