One of the points that attracted attention in President Ilham Aliyev's speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly is related to the Trans-Caspian project.
In his speech, the President emphasized that special importance is given to the "Digital Silk Road" project, and that the Trans-Caspian communication line, which is part of it, the fiber-optic cable network laid along the bottom of the Caspian Sea, will play an important role in turning Azerbaijan into a digital hub in the region.
Let me remind you that this project, carried out by Aztelecom, envisages the laying of the Trans-Caspian communication line connecting Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.
The project has already started, contractors have been determined, technical supervisors and consulting companies have been identified, contracts have been signed, and research on the underwater areas through which the route will pass has begun...
In the last 30 years, various countries have seriously resisted the implementation of such projects along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.
If important statements are made at the President level from the UN podium about this project, it may be considered that we are already on the verge of the realization of the Trans-Caspian.
From the perspective of Azerbaijan transforming into a digital and transit hub, attracting the interest of global companies and transferring their resources to Azerbaijan, and becoming the main part of the digital telecommunications infrastructure passing through the territories of Georgia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan, the Trans-Caspian project has strategic importance.
The Trans-Caspian communication line is not only a communication route but also a great opportunity for the development of the digital economy and innovations. The development of digital infrastructure and the attraction of global technology companies will greatly strengthen Azerbaijan’s competitiveness in the region.
