Costa Rica's Intelligence and Security Directorate prevented an assassination attempt planned against President Rodrigo Chávez a few days before the presidential elections scheduled for early February.
Ajans.az reports that the person organizing the assassination contacted at least two other individuals for this purpose. An investigation is currently underway, and the suspect considers themselves innocent.
Presidential elections in Costa Rica are scheduled for February 1, with a runoff on April 5 if necessary. Rodrigo Chávez's term will end on May 8.
