“It is possible that Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will call an early parliamentary election at the beginning of next year.” Political expert Mahammad Asadullazade said this in an interview with Medianews.az.

M. Asadullazade emphasized that if the parliamentary election is not brought forward and is held on time, that is in the summer, the constitutional referendum could be postponed until the end of 2026, and the signing of the final peace agreement with Azerbaijan may be delayed until 2027: “The delay of the peace agreement could lead to the emergence of new threats. As is known, Russia and Iran are trying to disrupt the process.
The expert recalled that last week Nikol Pashinyan held the congress of the ruling Civil Contract Party: “The party is preparing and strengthening its local organizations for the elections. The Prime Minister is making visits to the regions. The political situation is fully ripe for an early election.
If there is an early election and the constitutional referendum takes place in the first half of 2026, Nikol Pashinyan’s political position could be strengthened, and Russia’s pressures on Armenia could be neutralized. Currently, Turkey is conducting confidential talks with Armenia in this context. The US is also interested in the final peace agreement being concluded next year.
A new constitutional text will be prepared in Armenia by the end of this year. Geopolitical processes and the international situation demand the signing of the peace agreement in the summer of next year. If Armenia’s Prime Minister shows political will and accurately and pragmatically evaluates what is happening, the final peace agreement will be in favor of this country. Pashinyan is declaring the “4th Republic” in Armenia. For this, the final peace agreement is essential.”
Nikol Pashinyan took the prime minister’s seat on May 8, 2018, as the leader of a peaceful revolution. His “My Step” bloc won the parliamentary elections held on December 9, 2018, and the Civil Contract Party, which he chairs, won the parliamentary elections held on June 20, 2021, forming the government.
