An earthquake of magnitude 6 occurred near the city of Jalalabad in Afghanistan.

It is reported that the underground tremors were recorded at 19:17 UTC, 50 km northeast of the city of Jalalabad, which has a population of 200,000.
The earthquake's hypocenter was located at a depth of 10 km. As a result, at least 250 people have died and more than 500 have been injured. This was reported by the NBC television channel.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at a magnitude of 6 approximately 20 km from the city of Jalalabad near the border with Pakistan on Monday night local time. The hypocenter was located at a depth of approximately 8 km.
"We have initiated a large-scale rescue operation and mobilized to assist hundreds of people affected in the damaged areas," said Sharafat Zaman, spokesperson for the country's Ministry of Health.
According to him, since the earthquake occurred in a remote mountainous area, "it will take time to obtain accurate information regarding human losses and damage to infrastructure."
