US President Donald Trump met with the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Maria Corina Machado, at the White House.
According to Milli.Az, a statement given after the meeting said that Washington's support for the opposition is complete, but no concrete date has yet been set for elections to be held in Venezuela.
At the meeting held in Washington, Machado had lunch with Trump and discussed her role in Venezuela's future governance and US support. White House officials stated that President Trump "realistically" assesses Machado's influence and the mass support she has among the Venezuelan people and considers her a key figure for the country's democratic future.
One important outcome of the meeting is that the US administration did not announce any official schedule regarding when new elections will be held in Venezuela. The White House, acting cautiously on this matter, emphasized that the main focus is currently on the transfer of power and the protection of the people's will.
