“Naxtel,” Azerbaijan’s only regional mobile operator, is ceasing its operations.
“Naxtel” LLC, located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, has already warned its subscribers that it will completely stop telecommunication services by December, and has advised subscribers to apply to other mobile operators operating in the country within the next three months in order to keep the numbers currently registered in their names and continue to use mobile communication services.
Established in 2015, “Naxtel” is a 4th generation GSM + LTE operator. “Naxtel” covers all settlements of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with 130 base stations.
Thus, “Naxtel” subscribers must apply to other mobile operators within three months, that is, either “Azercell,” “Bakcell,” or “Nar.”
So how many subscribers does “Naxtel” have?
The website Medianews.az contacted the company’s hotline to find an answer to this question. However, no response was given.
The site sent an inquiry to the Digital Development and Transport Ministry of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to learn the number of “Naxtel” subscribers and the reasons behind the company’s closure. In response, it was stated that “Naxtel” LLC is not under the Digital Development and Transport Ministry of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and operates independently: “Therefore, since the information inquiry does not fall under the ministry’s authority, it is recommended to contact ‘Naxtel’ LLC.”
Unfortunately, the information inquiry sent by Medianews.az to “Naxtel” LLC’s email address (info@naxtel.az) also went unanswered.
Thus, one of Azerbaijan’s four mobile operators, the country’s only regional mobile operator, is closing down, but the reason for the closure remains unknown. Even the number of “Naxtel” subscribers currently facing this issue is not disclosed to the media.
Online resources only contain data about the number of “Naxtel” subscribers from six years ago. According to information published in February 2019, the number of subscribers registered with “Naxtel” exceeded 65,000.
