Who is Avanesyan, what is he affiliated with? What was his purpose? Why was he eager to get to the event venue? - DEPUTY

“Who is Karen Avanesyan, who was detained on September 14 in Khankendi on charges of attempting a armed provocation during the opening day of the Karabakh University's Clinic, the teaching building of the faculty of medicine and health sciences, and which group is he affiliated with? ‘Provocation’ is a broad term; this person, who even injured a police officer, what was his main goal? Why was he so eager to get to the event? I am sure that sooner or later there will be an official statement regarding this.” Member of the Milli Majlis Sahib Aliyev told Medianews.az.

The deputy further added: “I am also sure that those who have conducted military drills near us 3 times in the last three months, the revanchists under their control, the Dashnaks and other saboteurs will try to turn Karen Avanesyan into a hero or a victim. That is, they will resort to a wide information provocation around this incident, maybe also to cover up some things.

In any case, the event on September 14 demands that we increase our vigilance as a state and a nation. What happened on the day of the opening of the clinic and the teaching building of the faculty of medicine and health sciences in Khankendi shows that those who nurture hatred toward us in the Avanesyans, those who infect them with eternal enmity and terrorism will do their best to keep them in that state and prevent their healing. And it seems that the construction work going on in Karabakh annoys them no less than the liberation of our lands from occupation. We cannot ignore this.

I thank our police officers as a citizen for their alert and professional behavior and wish a speedy recovery to the injured officer!”

It should be recalled that on September 14 in the city of Khankendi, a person named Karen Avanesyan, born in 1967, was detained. He went from his place of residence to a forest near the city, took a "Kalashnikov" automatic rifle and four magazines filled with cartridges that he had hidden there in advance, as well as five grenades, and when he tried to approach the site of an event held in Khankendi, he was detained. At that time, K. Avanesyan threw three hand grenades and opened fire from the automatic rifle, showing armed resistance to the police. K. Avanesyan was wounded by gunfire during the return fire and was detained. During the operation, one police officer was injured.

The Prosecutor General’s Office and the State Security Service (DTX) have jointly opened a criminal case, and operational-investigative measures are underway.
