A cassation appeal has been filed against the decision on Mübariz Yusifov, who is accused of beating and killing his fellow villager in a cemetery in Tovuz.
Medianews.az, citing Pravda.az, reports that the appeal will be heard under the chairmanship of Judge Shahin Yusifov.
According to the accusation, the incident took place on July 1, 2024, in the cemetery of the Yuxarı Öysüzlü village of the Tovuz district. Mübariz Yusifov, a martyr's father, went to visit the grave of his son Münasib Yusifov and saw his fellow villager, 66-year-old Novruz Hajiyev, grazing livestock in the cemetery area. Yusifov objected to this and demanded that Hajiyev remove the animals from the cemetery. During the dispute, Novruz Hajiyev attacked Mübariz Yusifov with a stick in his hand. Yusifov took the stick from him, knocked Hajiyev to the ground, and struck his head and body with the stick.
Novruz Hajiyev, who sustained serious injuries, was brought to the hospital but could not be saved.
Regarding the incident, a criminal case was opened at the Tovuz District Prosecutor's Office under Article 126.3 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of serious bodily harm resulting in the death of the injured person due to negligence). Mübariz Yusifov was arrested as the accused. The Ganja Serious Crimes Court sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment. The Ganja Court of Appeal denied the appeal filed.
