The cause of death of the famous Canadian actress Catherine O’Hara, known for the series “Schitt’s Creek” and the film “Home Alone,” has been revealed.
According to the death certificate disclosed by the Los Angeles City Public Health Department and published by TMZ, the actress died due to a pulmonary embolism.
The document also noted that colorectal cancer was one of the main medical reasons.
71-year-old Catherine O’Hara passed away on January 30, 2026. It was reported that her body was cremated.
It should be noted that O’Hara was awarded an “Emmy” for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series” in 2020 for her role as Moira Rose in the “Schitt’s Creek” series. She portrayed the mother of the main character “Kevin” in the 1990 film “Home Alone,” as well as the character Delia Deetz in the movie “Beetlejuice.”
The actress most recently appeared before the audience in the role of Patti Lee, a studio executive who was fired, in the satirical Hollywood series “The Studio,” directed by Seth Rogen and released in 2025.
