The 38-year precipitation record has been broken.

Compared to the record precipitation indicators recorded so far in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, the precipitation observed in March of the current year was significantly higher.

This was reported to Medianews.az by the National Hydrometeorology Service.

It was noted that the amount of precipitation that fell in one day on March 21, 1988, was 36.8 mm, which was approximately 150% of the monthly norm.

On March 27–28 of the current year, a total of 143 mm of precipitation was recorded. This constitutes 606% of the monthly norm.

Regarding monthly indicators, a total of 83 mm of precipitation fell in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula in March 1988, which corresponded to 352% of the monthly norm. In the first 28 days of March 2026, the amount of precipitation was 151 mm. This indicator is 640% of the monthly norm, approximately 6 times higher.

Thus, the observed precipitation indicators are about 4 times higher compared to the respective daily maximum records of 1988, and about 2 times higher in terms of the monthly indicator. This indicates the high intensity and anomaly of precipitation in the current period.
