Changes have been made to the official website of the Security Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Medianews.az reports that the "Composition of the Security Council" section of the site has been deactivated.
In this section, as the name implies, a list of members of the Security Council was presented. The list also included the name of Ramiz Mehdiyev, the former head of the Presidential Administration.
Ramiz Mehdiyev was included in the composition of the Security Council in October 2019.
On October 14, 2025, news spread in the country’s media stating that Ramiz Mehdiyev was accused of serious crimes (attempt to forcibly seize power, treason against the state, and legalization of a significant amount of property obtained through criminal means). It was announced that the investigation was conducted by the State Security Service and that the Sabail District Court had chosen house arrest as a measure of restraint for Ramiz Mehdiyev for a period of 4 months. On October 18, information was also published in the national media stating that Ramiz Mehdiyev was removed from the membership of the Security Council.
Although no official statements have yet been made regarding the above, the change on the Security Council’s website can be considered as one confirmation of these reports.
As an advisory body, the Security Council offers proposals on the formation and implementation of state policy in the field of ensuring national security, determines the main directions of the state’s foreign and domestic security, ensures national security, and addresses issues related to the protection of the state’s constitutional order, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as the situation of internal security and socio-political stability in the country.
