In modern times, most of work life is spent in front of a computer. However, specialists warn that a long-term sedentary work regime and spending hours in front of a screen seriously harm both physical and psychological health.
According to ophthalmologists, continuous work in front of a computer weakens visual ability, causes "dry eye syndrome" and eye strain. As a result of artificial lighting, bright monitors, and improper distance maintenance, headaches and blurred vision incidences increase.
Neurologists state that working continuously in a sedentary position causes spinal curvatures, neck and back pain. In some cases, these problems become chronic and require treatment.
"Office workers should take a 5-10 minute break every 40-50 minutes, get up and move. This improves blood circulation and prevents back and neck pain," physiotherapists recommend.
At the same time, long-term staring at a computer screen increases psychological tension. Due to long working hours, disruption of the sleep rhythm by blue light, and increased stress levels, problems of insomnia and difficulty concentrating arise.
IT specialists add that lighting, desk, and chair levels should be properly adjusted at workplaces. The monitor should be at eye level, and the chair should have lumbar support.
Experts urge everyone to follow the "20-20-20" rule. It is beneficial to look 20 meters away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes.
Thus, maintaining proper working conditions and breaks helps to protect both the productivity and health of office workers.
