Will the phone still work and will there be internet after December 1st? - What do mobile operators say?

“Naxtel” mobile communication operator, which decided to suspend all telecommunication services until December, has advised its subscribers to switch to other mobile operators during this period.

“Naxtel,” operating for 10 years in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, is a 4th generation GSM + LTE operator. It covers all settlements of the autonomous republic, with 130 base stations and tens of thousands of subscribers.

Will “Naxtel” subscribers living in remote villages of Nakhchivan be able to consistently use mobile phone services and internet when connected to other mobile operators’ networks? In other words, will numbers belonging to currently operating mobile operators work fully functionally not only in the cities and district centers of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic but also in remote villages, and will those numbers have internet connectivity?

Medianews.az received the following response from the “Bakcell” company: “From October 1 to December 1, ‘Naxtel’ subscribers applying to the special service centers of ‘Bakcell’ located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, as well as in Baku and Ganja cities, can transfer their existing numbers to the ‘Bakcell’ network while keeping them under their names. At this time, they will also benefit from the special campaign intended only for ‘Naxtel’ subscribers.”

“Bakcell” noted that subscribers connected to the “GO” tariffs will be offered special discounts for 12 months:

GO 7.99 - First tariff activation and 1 renewal – free of charge. The next 22 renewals with a 20% discount;

GO 11.99 - First tariff activation – free of charge. The next 11 renewals with a 20% discount;

GO 17.99 - First tariff activation – free of charge. The next 11 renewals with a 20% discount;

GO 29.99 - First tariff activation – free of charge. The next 11 renewals with a 20% discount.

“Azercell” informed Medianews.az that the company has been providing telecommunication services in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic since 1997: “In 2023, ‘Azercell Telekom’ began the deployment of the 4G network in the city of Nakhchivan and has been working since then to expand the coverage area of the 4G network throughout the autonomous republic. The expansion and upgrading of the network are being carried out taking into account the geographical features of the autonomous republic.”

“Azercell” also stated that the company’s network covers 95 percent of the country’s territory geographically.

“Naxtel” LLC, the only regional mobile operator in Azerbaijan, announced on September 1 that it has decided to cease operations. Attempts by Medianews.az to learn the reason by contacting the company’s Call Center remained unanswered. The inquiry sent by the site to “Naxtel” LLC’s email address (info@naxtel.az) also went unanswered.

Besides “Naxtel,” there are only three other mobile operators in the country: “Azercell,” “Bakcell,” and “Nar.”
