The report on missing persons has been updated

The State Commission on Prisoners of War and Missing Civilians reports that during the years of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan, 3990 people went missing - 3211 servicemen and 779 civilians. According to the new report, 3984 of the missing are registered as losses from the First Karabakh War, and 6 from the 2020 Patriotic War.

Medianews.az recalls that during 1988-1994, Armenia occupied the southwest of Azerbaijan and 1 village in the Sadarak district and 7 villages in the Gazakh district, establishing a separatist regime in Karabakh.

From September 27 to November 10, 2020, as a result of the war waged by Azerbaijan and subsequent negotiations and local military operations, the districts of Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli, Aghdam, Kalbajar, Lachin were completely liberated, and parts of Shusha, Khojavend, Khojaly, Aghdere districts were partially freed.

On September 19, 2023, Azerbaijan launched a military operation against the occupying regime controlling the cities of Khankendi, Khojaly, Aghdere, Khojavend, and parts of the districts of Shusha, Khojaly, Khojavend, and Aghdere. The next day, the regime undertook the obligation to disarm, and from September 24, the mass exodus of Armenians from Karabakh began, with the regime abandoning itself on September 28.

On May 24, 2024, Armenia withdrew from the villages of Ashagi Askipara, Baghanis Ayrim, Kheyrimli, and Gizilhajili in Gazakh.

The villages of Kerki in the Sadarak district, and Barkhudarly, Sofulu, and Yukhari Askipara in the Gazakh district remain in an enclave status, surrounded by Armenian territory.

On August 8, 2025, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia signed a joint declaration in Washington, under the witness of the U.S. President, undertaking a peace commitment. The foreign ministers of the two countries also initialed a draft agreement on establishing peace and interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
