Warning from the expert to families: Walking in a dream is more dangerous than you think

Experts state that sleepwalking (lunatism), which is frequently encountered in children, mostly occurs during adolescence but can be a symptom of serious illnesses in adults.

Medianews.az reports that doctor Gözde Nezir Eyican spoke on this matter.

She noted that this condition occurs during the deep sleep phase, and although the person may appear awake from the outside, they are actually unconscious. According to her, during lunatism, a person may wander around the house and perform various actions.

The specialist emphasized that suddenly waking a person in this state is not appropriate because it can result in panic and disorientation. The best approach is to calmly guide the person back to bed.

The doctor added that genetic factors also play an important role – if parents have this problem, the likelihood of it occurring in children increases. For diagnosis, polysomnography (sleep test) is used, and this method can also identify other neurological or sleep disorders.

It was noted that in adults, lunatism can be associated with sleep apnea, neurological, or psychological problems. Therefore, in such cases, examination and treatment must be carried out, and safety precautions should be taken at home.
