Today marks the second year of liberation of the 132-kilometer Azerbaijan-Iran state border, which has been occupied by Armenian armed forces for many years.
On October 22, 2020, Agband settlement of Zangilan district was liberated from occupation.
With this, the Azerbaijan-Iran state border, which has been under the territory for nearly thirty years, has been taken under full control.
On this day of 2020, President Muzaffar Ali, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ilham Aliyev delivered that good news to the people of Azerbaijan. The head of state congratulated the people of both countries on the liberation of Aghband settlement and the full control of the Azerbaijan-Iran state border.
The Azerbaijani military, who freed the Aghband settlement and its outpost from the Aghband border, reported this to Commander-in-Chief Ali Ilham Aliyev.
Along with Aghband settlement, Zangilan district’s Kollugishlaq, Malatkeshin, Village Zangilan, Genlik, Veligulubeyli, Garadare, Chopadare, Tatar, Tiri, Amirkhanli, Gargulu, Bartaz, Dallekli villages, Fuzuli district’s Mollavali, Yukhari Rafidinli, Ashaghi Rafidinli, etc., Shikhlar , Mastalibeyli, Darzili villages were cleared of the enemy.
By the order of the head of the country, a union and all security infrastructure was created with the State Border Service in a short period of time, which was freed from occupation as in other directions of the Iran-Azerbaijani border. The activity of the border posts has been restored here.
It should be noted that Aghband settlement belongs to the village administrative territorial district of Zangila’s Vejnali district, and armed alliances with the Armenian Armed Forces were stopped in 1993. The settlement is located on the bank of Araz river, at the foot of Agband mountain. The name of the settlement is taken from the name of the mountain at its foot.
