At least 70 people have been killed and hundreds injured in a multiple train collision in India’s eastern Odisha state, local officials say, APA reports.
Dozens of ambulances were sent to the scene in Balasore district, the state’s chief secretary, Pradeep Jena, said.
One passenger train is thought to have derailed before being struck by another on the adjacent track late on Friday.
Indian Railways said the two services involved were the Coromandel Express and the Howrah Superfast Express.

Following the incident, rescue operations have been launched and the injured are being moved to Balasore hospital.
The Special Relief Commissioner’s (SRF) office in Odisha said in a statement: “Teams have left for the spot for search and rescue operation.
“Collector Balasore has also been directed to reach the spot to make all necessary arrangements and intimate the SRC if any additional help is required from the state level.”
According to reports, several teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on their way to the scene to carry out further rescue operations.
