A tripartite group with the participation of the vice-premiers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia is dealing with the issues of unblocking trade and economic communications in the South Caucasus, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
Lavrov spoke about the activities of the working group to unblock communications:
“It works smoothly while meetings are held on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The working group has made significant progress in reaching agreements, which, I hope, will be formalized in the near future. It is imperative that the work is carried out not in isolation, but in close connection with broader transport projects, including North-South.”
He also noted that there were discussions at the meeting on the ongoing talks between Russia, Iran and Azerbaijan regarding the construction of a small section of the Rasht-Astara railway.
According to the Russian minister, contacts of specialists are planned for September.
